The Bank of Canada has officially released its schedule of policy interest rate announcements for 2027, while also reconfirming the remaining rate announcement dates for 2026.

Although the announcement does not signal any change in monetary policy, it provides an important roadmap for mortgage professionals and borrowers preparing for potential changes to interest rates over the next 18 months.

2027 Bank of Canada rate announcement dates

The Bank is scheduled to make eight interest rate announcements in 2027:

  • Wednesday, January 27

  • Wednesday, March 3

  • Wednesday, April 28

  • Wednesday, June 2

  • Wednesday, July 21

  • Wednesday, September 8

  • Wednesday, October 27

  • Wednesday, December 8

All announcements will be released at 9:45 a.m. ET.

The Bank also confirmed the remaining policy announcement dates for 2026:

  • Wednesday, September 2

  • Wednesday, October 28

  • Wednesday, December 9

Monetary Policy Report released four times a year

As in previous years, the Bank's Monetary Policy Report (MPR) will accompany the January, April, July, and October rate announcements.

These releases are typically the most closely watched by economists and financial markets because they include updated forecasts for inflation, economic growth, employment, and the Bank's outlook for monetary policy. While the Bank never pre-commits to future rate decisions, the MPR often provides valuable insight into the factors influencing future moves.

Why these dates matter for mortgage borrowers

For Canadians with a variable-rate mortgage, adjustable-rate mortgage, or home equity line of credit (HELOC), each announcement has the potential to affect borrowing costs if the Bank changes its overnight lending rate.

Even homeowners with fixed-rate mortgages should pay attention. Bond markets often begin pricing in future rate expectations well before an announcement, meaning fixed mortgage rates can move in anticipation of changes to the Bank's outlook.

For buyers entering the market or homeowners approaching renewal, knowing these dates can help with financial planning and timing discussions around mortgage options.

More than just interest rate announcements

Alongside the rate schedule, the Bank also released the dates for several major economic publications that provide insight into the health of the Canadian economy.

The Business Outlook Survey and Canadian Survey of Consumer Expectations will be released on:

  • January 18

  • April 19

  • July 12

  • October 18

All survey releases will occur at 11:30 a.m. ET.

The Financial Stability Report, which examines risks facing Canada's financial system, is scheduled for May 18, 2027, at 10:00 a.m. ET.

What this means going forward

While the publication of the calendar does not provide any indication of where interest rates are headed, it gives borrowers, investors, and mortgage professionals a clear timeline for the Bank's key policy decisions throughout 2027.

With inflation, economic growth, employment data, and global events continuing to influence monetary policy, each announcement will remain an important event for Canadians making borrowing and financing decisions.

For mortgage professionals, staying ahead of these dates allows for proactive conversations with clients about renewals, refinancing opportunities, and fixed versus variable mortgage strategies as market conditions evolve.
